Kitchens Storage Or High Use Cabinets
When you are designing your new kitchen, it is a good idea to keep in mind that there are going to be different uses for the different cabinets you want in your kitchen. Some cabinets you will want to use for storing things in like your groceries and others will be for other things, like kitchen pots and pans and many other things.
What is true is the cabinets will be opened many times during the day. There are things to consider when you install kitchen cabinets, things like the kind of hardwood you want to select, the doors and knobs or handles, and how you are going to display your cabinets in your kitchen.
Also used for display
A good example of where kitchen cabinets are stored is in the pantry. Some of them have solid type doors that either open in a traditional manner and some will roll open if your kitchen space is not big. There are the high use cabinets where the plates and bowls and glasses are usually kept. These kitchen cabinets can also have glass in front of them to show what is inside.
If you do put glass over the front of them it is important that you keep them very clean and organised. Some people love these as display cabinets and keep their very expensive dinner services in them. They only bring them out on very special occasions, sometimes never.
Knobs and handles are part of the overall look
High use cabinets must have strong hardware that is securely attached and can stand being pulled and tugged open throughout the day. Special glass knobs or special decorated knobs won’t be a good idea if your cabinet has to put up with heavy use. They will simply fall off or get damaged. Metal handles are often the best choice as they are well built and solid and they come in a wide variety of styles and sizes.
Some people do not even bother to put knobs on because some cabinet doors are easy to pull open gently on the corners. Leaving the knobs off the cabinets could make your kitchen look sleeker and more modern and less costly in the long run because you do not have to shop for stylish knobs or handles. Sometimes the doors of the cabinets do not close securely and you could use magnet closures between the door and the side of the cabinet.
Keep in mind what will go where for easy access
When you are designing the layout of your new kitchen, keep in mind which cabinets are going to hold what items. It will not be a good idea to keep your dinner plates and cutlery in a cabinet way out of your reach of the stove or the sink for instance. The cabinets that hold the things that you use on an everyday basis and more than just once should be very close to the three most used places in your kitchen; that is the stove, the sink or the fridge. The access between your high use cabinets and those three appliances should also be clear so that you do not stumble in your movements when you are very busy in the kitchen.
The trick then is to make sure that they are arranged in a way that is functional and practical for your cooking needs. A well thought out kitchen can be enjoyed for many years to come, while a poorly designed kitchen space will cause frustration many times over.
