Bumper Stickers

Published: July 14, 2011

We daily drive past people with funny bumper stickers (stickers placed on a car’s bumper, as the name indicates.) For many people this is a hobby, or others just want to make a point about a certain matter, such as supporting either the Bulls or the Stormers! Bumper stickers do not need to be placed on the bumper of a car – many people prefer to put them on windows, hoods or all over!

A Hobby

Did you know that bumper sticker collecting is a real hobby? Some people collect bumper stickers, never actually placing them on their car, but keeping the car stickers in a scrapbook or file, as you would keep stickers in a sticker book.

Others place their collection all over their car, or any other smooth surface, such as, for example, a bicycle, surfboard or skateboard, not even leaving a single open space! From the door to the bumper to the roof – everything covered in car stickers!

Why Bumper Stickers?

Bumper stickers are a fun way of expressing yourself. There are such a great variety of stickers available: some of them show an icon that is familiar and for example associated with a certain group, such as KFC, the Springboks, Proteas or Maties (The University of Stellenbosch), and others have wording that people feel encapsulates who they are, for example: ‘No Fear’, ‘No Regret’, etc.

Bumper stickers also allow people to be creative in the sense that they can design their own signs and come up with their own funky expressions. People cannot always afford to buy their dream car, but they can ‘spice up’ the car they have to reflect their personalities.

Other Kinds Of Bumper Stickers

Other kinds of bumper stickers that you will often see, besides those that are used to personalise a car or those that show support for a specific sports team, are car stickers showing support for a specific political party. Political parties might especially like to hand out car stickers sporting their name close to election time. This is an effective way of promoting any cause as a car serves as a mobile billboard.

Other stickers show support for certain groups that might be controversial, for example, car stickers showing support for various religious groups or showing gay or lesbian support or ethnic pride.

Taking Off A Bumper Sticker

Many people worry about when the time comes when they want to take off a specific bumper sticker. There are, however, specific products available to help you with this task (be sure to ask a professional’s advise on this, as you don’t want to remove some of the car’s paint with the sticker!).

Consider getting a catchy bumper sticker for your car. You can always remove it at a later stage. You can even have one designed to advertise your business!
