Premicell The Cellular Router

Published: July 4, 2011

A Premicell is a cellular router, which connects to a PABX to give you a saving on cellular calls, by routing cell calls through cellular networks and billing per second.

When placing a call to a cellular number, the call is routed by the PABX to the Premicell. This will route the call, as a Cell to Cell call, through the cellular network. The calls are billed per second and are substantially cheaper than, Telkom to Cell calls.

Least Cost Routing (LCR)

Competitive tariffs from mobile network operators now enable call centres and companies, to achieve reductions, by using mobile networks instead of landline networks. Premicell makes it possible for such companies to use their existing telephone equipment to make calls directly over mobile networks.

Most modern PABX can do least cost routing, where the PABX, first looks at the number being dialled and routes the call through the cheapest route available. With some older PABX systems, the user needs to manually select a route by dialling a code, to inform the PABX which route to use. On these older PABX systems a line scanner can be installed to do the LCR automatically.

Premicells, private calls

One of the general settings on Premicells is not to display the calling number to the caller. The theory is that Premicells, are for outgoing calls, and excessive call-ins, on Premicell lines, would tie up available lines. If you have to leave a message, the client can’t just hit some shortcut, to call you back. A nuisance, but the following is becoming a real problem.

There are an increasing number of people who will not answer their cell-phone if the calling number isn’t displayed. This is happening time and again, when calling a cell-phone number through the switchboard, the client won’t answer. After a number of attempts, with no response, by using a normal cell-phone, bingo, the client takes the call.

No calling number display no answer

So why don’t people answer calls when the calling number isn’t displayed?
For some it depends a little, on what time of the day an unknown number calls. Mostly if it is after 17h00, it is guaranteed that most individuals will not answer it

People are quite simply, sick of telemarketing and will not answer any unknown number on their phone, especially a “private number”. It’s less frustrating, to simply call back, if it’s a genuine caller message.

Personally, I also, do not ever, answer “private number” calls, for a few reason. Firstly why should the caller know whom they are going to speak to, yet I am not allowed to know who is calling. Secondly, it is disrespectful, after all, it is my phone and it is also PRIVATE and nobody has the right to take away my privacy. Thirdly, but perhaps most importantly, this encourages stalking by phone, which could turn out to have ugly consequences. So if by some chance, you do want to call my on a cell, make sure the number display is on, otherwise you are wasting time and effort.
